It was a glorious day for a ride, but the shadow of the passing of one of our members made it bitter sweet.
Susan Wheeler passed Friday evening, August 25th, while riding her horse Roxy. I had talked to her earlier during the week and she wanted to know if she could only hike and start earlier so that she could visit her mom. I told her it was no problem at all and I would be there by 8:15 a.m. Sadly, that didn’t happen and she will be sorely missed. We dedicated this ride to her and after the ride we spoke of some of the things she had done:
Last year on this ride, Gloria Duhaime’s horse wasn’t doing well. So Sue put Gloria up on Roxy and lead both Roxy and Hudson back on an extremely hot and humid day.
She came up with the idea of the Trivia Ride and organized it in 2016 and 2017. She was so excited about that ride and working on the questions. We had actually thought that for next year we would expand it to include hikers and bikers, as they were all checking out the questions on the trail and a few had actually come up to the headquarters to hear the answers.
Sue was a fun person and In Her Memory, we did have a fun ride. We had one other person that was doing the hiking loop and we asked her to also pick a hand for Sue while she was out there. Sue would have been happy with her pair of 5’s that won her first place among the hikers.
