Bay State Trail Riders Association (BSTRA) partnered with the Department of Conservation & Recreation (DCR) to work on trails in the Douglas State Forest.
On April 18th we tackled a .92 mile section of trail on the north side of the forest. This work day entailed cutting, brushing back, trimming to a clear height of 9 feet and reopening some drainage swales. We successfully accomplished this task with the help of DCR personnel Cary VandenAkker, Paul Gosselin, Steve Lovejoy and Ron Anderson. BSTRA members Barbara McCumber, Becky Kalagher, Karen Parlin, Bill Knott, Sue Quirk, Kathy Richards and Gloria Duhaime. Dynamy Youth Academy advisor Fabian Glenn and students Christopher Porhilla, Mark Coplin, D’mone Walker, Judy Nguyen, Naheer Lahdo, Malik Bailey, Jazmine Dion, Dalena Truong and Alenis
All totaled we put in 63.75 hours. Using Massachusetts volunteer hour rate ($27.82 per hour), that gives us a value of $1,773.52 that was put back into trails. Plus BSTRA donated $131.64 to feed our volunteers.
